The Asus Monitor Calibration workflow in Calman 2020 will guide you through calibrating compatible Asus ProArt monitors.
Calman Supported Models
- ASUS ProArt PA32UCX
- ASUS ProArt PA27UCX
Calman Required Version
- Calman (Ultimate or Studio) Version 5.11.0 or later
Step 1
- Welcome to the Calman Asus Monitor Calibration Workflow, press Start Calibration to begin calibration
Step 2
Here you will connect to your Asus Monitor and calibration hardware
- Connect to your Asus Monitor
- Note: If you're using a Thunderbolt 3 cable for your video connection, no extra cables are needed, If you're using HDMI or DisplayPort for your video connection, you will also need to connect a USB cable between your computer and your monitor. This can be a Thunderbolt 3 cable or a USB-A to USB-C cable (with the USB-C end plugged into the 90W Thunderbolt 3 port on the back of the monitor
- Click Connect Asus Monitor
- On the Find Display dialog, you can choose two methods for calibration. Connect via the method you wish you calibrate with.
- Asus ProArt Monitors 3D LUT
- Calibrates the monitor using a 1D LUT for grayscale calibration, and a 3D LUT for color gamut correction
- Asus ProArt Monitor Matrix
- Calibrates the monitor using a 1D LUT for grayscale calibration, and a 3x3 matrix for color gamut correction
- Asus ProArt Monitors 3D LUT
- On the Find Display dialog, you can choose two methods for calibration. Connect via the method you wish you calibrate with.
- External Meter Connect
- Press External Meter Connect button
- On the Find Meters dialog, select your meter if it is listed, then click Search. If your meter is not listed on the Find Meters dialog, just click Search.
- On the Meter Settings tab, under the Meter Mode drop-down, for a colorimeter select a meter mode appropriate for the display type you are calibrating. For a spectrophotometer, no special selection is required.
- External Source Connect
- On the Source Settings tab, click the Find Source button.
- On the Find Source dialog, select the Asus - Asus ProArt Monitors
- Click Connect.
Step 3
In this step, you can configure your calibration targets
- Colorspace
- Preconfigured at Rec.709/sRGB
- Whitepoint
- Preconfigured at D65
- Gamma Formula
- Power Function is preconfigured, you may change the power function using the box to the right
Step 4
In this step, you'll take readings of your display before the calibration. These will be used to compare your calibration results
- To take Pre-Calibration Measurements click the Read Series [...] button to measure the display's grayscale and ColorChecker response
Step 5
- Select the display mode you wish to calibrate, and press Reset Current Mode to prepare the display for calibration
Step 6
- Luminance Target
- Using the Brightness control for the monitor, displayed on screen, adjust to your luminance target.
- Click the Read Continuous button to measure your TV's light output at 100% white and adjust the display’s peak white to the desired luminance.
- Luminance is a subjective target, you may need to target higher to account for the ambient light in your environment.
- Below are some general luminance levels for different viewing environments (Supported levels are 45-250 cd/m^2)
- Dim Room: 80-120 cd/m^2
- Overhead lights: 120-160 cd/m^2
- Bright Room: 200+ cd/m^2

- Using the Brightness control for the monitor, displayed on screen, adjust to your luminance target.
Step 7
Press the AutoCal button to begin the Greyscale and Color Gamut AutoCal process.
- Depending on the calibration method chosen in Step 2 this will complete a full calibration on your display including a greyscale 1D LUT (look-up table) and 3x3 Color Matrix, or a greyscale 1D LUT and a 3D LUT color cube.
NOTE:
If calibrating to video levels (SMPTE 16-235) and you choose to only calibrate using a 3D LUT, Calman may incorrectly choose SMPTE+ (16-255) when starting the 3D LUT process. If this occurs, ensure that the Asus is set to limited range in the OSD (Image > Input Range > Limited 16-235) as well as in 3D LUT AutoCal dialog
Step 8
It's common to lose some overall luminance after the 1D LUT calibration. Use step this to adjust back to your luminance target if it has changed
- Click the Read Continuous button to measure your monitors light output at 100% white and adjust the display’s peak white to the desired luminance.
- Press Stop when luminance adjustment is complete
Step 9
Here Post-calibration readings are taken to document the post-calibration condition of the display.
Click the Read Series [...] button
- SDR Calibration is now complete.
- Press the Save Config button to load the calibration to the monitor.
- Press Save and Report to save your Calman session file and open a report
- Or, Press Additional Validation to perform additional post-calibration tests with Saturation Sweeps and Pantone ColorChecker patches.

HDR Calibration
Note: Calman (Ultimate or Studio) Version 5.12.0 or later required for HDR calibration
Step 1
- Welcome to the Calman Asus HDR Monitor Calibration Workflow, press Start Calibration to begin calibration
Note: Display should be warmed up for at least one hour before calibration
Step 2
- Connect Monitor:
- Connect to the monitor using a USB C cable to the computer for communication
and press 'Find Monitor - Connect to Asus - ProArt Monitors 3D LUT
- Connect to the monitor using a USB C cable to the computer for communication
- Connect Source
- Pattern insertion is required
- Use the "Set Pattern Insertion Defaults" button to enable and configure the recommended settings

Step 3
- Connect Meter
- On the Find Meters dialog, select your meter if it is listed, then click Search. If your meter is not listed on the Find Meters dialog, just click Search.
- On the Meter Settings tab, under the Meter Mode drop-down, for a colorimeter select a meter mode appropriate for the display type you are calibrating. For a spectrophotometer, no special selection is required.
- Connect Pattern Source
- Note: The Asus internal pattern generator cannot be used for HDR calibration.
- A hardware pattern generator must be used for HDR Calibration
- On the Source Settings tab, click the Find Source button and connect to your HDR pattern generator
- Default PG settings should be set to 10% WINDOW
- PG should NOT send any HDR metadata
- Configure our pattern generator delay as follows based on your Dynamic Dimming settings on the monitor
- For FAST/MEDIUM options, set Pattern Delay on your Pattern Generator to 1 second
- For GRADUAL option, Pattern Delay on your Pattern Generator should be set to at least 3 seconds
- Note: The Asus internal pattern generator cannot be used for HDR calibration.
Step 4
In this step, you can configure your calibration target
- Colorspace
- Preconfigured at Rec.2020
- Whitepoint
- Preconfigured at D65
- Gamma Formula
- Preconfigured for HDR ST.2084
Step 5
In this step, you'll take readings of your display before the calibration. These will be used to compare your calibration results

- Select the HDR display mode you wish to calibrate, and press Reset Current Mode to prepare the display for calibration
- Before Proceeding, ensure you have checked the following...
- Asus Display set to 100 brightness
- Confirm Display is in HDR mode
- The Range setting in the display's OSD needs to match the settings in Calman, as well as the settings on the Pattern generator
- The valid options are:
- Range in the OSD Set to Full - Calman set to PC levels - Pattern generator set to GB Full 8bit - AutoCal option Full levels
- Range in the OSD Set to Limited (16-235) - Calman set to Video Levels - Pattern generator set to RGB Limited 8bit - AutoCal option set to Limited (16-235).
- Range set to Auto in the OSD will work for both the Full and Limited options mentioned above
- Range in the OSD set to Limited (16-254) is not supported.
- The valid options are:
- Now, use the Measure White button to confirm the display is reaching HDR luminance levels
Step 6
- Choose your 3D LUT calibration method using the 3 fixed grid buttons in the workflow
- Only Fixed Grid HDR LUTs are supported, other methods will fail.
Step 7
Here Post-calibration readings are taken to document the post-calibration condition of the display.
- HDR Calibration is now complete.
- Press Save and Report to save your Calman session file and open a report
